Raymond McCord’s Campaign for Justice

McGurk’s Bar Campaign for Truth, Published by Ciarán Mac Airt

The 27th anniversary of the murder of Raymond McCord Jnr is today, Saturday, November 9th, so it is poignant that his Dad and family have lodged legal papers demanding a public inquiry before another anniversary. They should not have been forced to fight for truth and justice for so long but the British state would rather protect its killers and those who run them in the RUC. The family has exhausted all other legal avenues so an inquiry remains the final recourse they have for truth and justice.

The inquiry would not only cover many post-ceasefire civilian murders by this particular UVF gang in North Belfast but should also include its hierarchy in West Belfast and – more importantly – RUC Special Branch and British military intelligence officers who were running them for decades before.

The family’s battle also supports the legal battles of many other families across the country whose basic human rights are being assaulted by Britain’s disgraceful Legacy Act and the pernicious ICRIR.
